세계시니어시민의 날이 8월 22일 오후 3시 서울 양재 시민의 숲 윤봉길 의사기념관에서 개최된다.

세계시니어 시민의 날은 전 미국 대통령 로널드 레이건에 의해 1988년 공식적으로 제정되었다. 1988년 8월 21일을 제3세대(The third age)를 기념하는 국경일로 이는 UN의 세계노년의 날 보다 3년 앞서 제정돤 시니어시티즌의 날이다.

세계시니어시티즌 데이 한국 소개를 준비하고 공공정책시민감시단 강세호 회장은 “베이비붐세대의 주축을 이루고 있는 5~60대는 산업발전의 주역으로 활동해오다 은퇴를 전후로 노후준비를 걱정해야

하는 세대로 분야별 전문 산업기술 IT등에 익숙하다. 5060세대는 재활용이 가능한 활동적인 근로가 가능한 세대“ 라고 규정한다.

또 65세 이상 노년층에 대해서는 노인복지관점에서 국가적인 지원을 위한 예산 편성이 이루어지고 있지만 시니어 세대의 국가적 예산지원은 불투명하고 사적 영역의 지원에 의존하고 있는 실태다.

시니어세대가 지니고 있는 활동력, 잠재력, 미래지향적 사고 및 활

동들을 고령시대를 대비하는 국가차원의 전략자산으로 재활용하고

시니어들의 체계적인 노후준비를 위한 다채로운 인적자원활용

전략 수립이 필요하다고 했다.

세계시니어시티즌데이(World Senior Citizen's Day)간사 역할을 담당하고 있는 주명룡 KARP대한은퇴자협회대표는 “청년과 노년층 사이에 어정쩡하게 끼인 세대인 시니어들을 위한 국가적 차원의 시니어시민의 날을 정규화하여 활동적인 시니어의 권익보호와 사회기여를 인정하는 촉매제 역할을 강화 할 필요가 있다”고 강조한다.

Senior Citizens' Day to be held in Korea on August 22nd

World Senior Citizens' Day will be held on August 22nd at 3 p.m. at Yun Bong-gil Memorial Hall in Seoul's Yangjae Citizens' Forest.

World Senior Citizens' Day was officially established in 1988 by former U.S. President Ronald Reagan. It commemorates August 21st as a national holiday celebrating the "third age" and was established three years ahead of the United Nations' International Day of Older Persons.

In preparation for World Senior Citizens' Day in Korea, Kang Se-ho, the chairman of the Public Policy Citizen Watchdog, stated, "The 50s and 60s, who make up the core of the baby boomer generation, have been active as the mainstay of industrial development and are familiar with specialized industries and IT technology. The 50s and 60s are a generation capable of active labor and recycling. As for those aged 65 and older, budget allocation for national support is being made from the perspective of elderly welfare. However, national budget support for the senior generation is unclear and relies on private sector support."

He further emphasized the need to recycle the active power, potential, future-oriented thinking, and activities of the senior generation as a national strategic asset to prepare for an aging society and to establish diverse human resource utilization strategies for systematic retirement preparations.

Juch Myong-yong, the Secretary-General of KARP, who is in charge of World Senior Citizens' Day, stated, "There is a need to normalize a national-level Senior Citizens' Day that recognizes the rights protection and social contribution of active seniors, who are caught in between the youth and the elderly."

World Senior Citizens' Day will take place on August 22nd at 3 p.m. at Yun Bong-gil Memorial Hall in Yangjae Citizens' Forest.
